Are all cards flashcards?

Hello there

The addition of flashcards feature is a game changer and I’m starting exploring Supernotes again.

There is something I would like to validate though: from my little experiments with flashcards, it looks like as soon as you swap to flashcards view, all the cards in the view are taken into account for flashcards review activity. From the online help, I saw that you have to enter - - - to distinguish sides in the card, but this is not a flashcard identification method as by default, the card’s title will be used automatically, Meaning all cards are flashcards.
I have implemented a workaround for now, using a specific tag created on purpose for the « real » flashcards I need. Then, I filter the view before switching to « flashcards » view so I can only review the cards marked with the proper tag.

Is it as it’s supposed to work or am I missing something here?

Thank you!
Jack

Hey Jack, yep that is exactly how it is supposed to work. Unlike other systems, we wanted to give you the flexibility to use any of your cards as flashcards, and yes as you noted if you do not delineate a card with any --- then we use the card title as the “front”, and the content as the “back”.

And yes, as you discovered as well, the best way to only review cards that have a separator is to use filters. If there are certain cards you use a lot, you can always create a Custom Collection that has whatever filters you need, and also includes a filter for --- to ensure that collection is only picking up those cards.

Hello Connor, thank you for your quick answer.
Indeed, filtering for --- is a better & simpler alternative, thanks for the bonus tip
