I recommend pointing Linux users towards Gear Lever as an alternative to Appimagelauncher. Appimagelauncher is a bit dated now, and Gear Lever provides the same/better desktop integration for app images. Also, Gear Lever is available as a flatpak on Flathub (see Install Gear Lever on Linux | Flathub), so it is easier to manage and keep up to date.
Hi @rudder7976, thanks for the feedback!
Gear Lever does look a lot more polished and user friendly. We’ll test on our end and look into updating the guidance ![]()
Hey! being a heavy Linux user myself, did you guys get the chance to look at this further?
We haven’t updated the instructions yet, but it does seem like Gear Lever is a better option. How does Gear Lever work for you as a heavy linux user @G98Productive?
Hey! Well its the first I have heard of it and thought that if its better than app image I want to try it! ![]()
Is it documented on the site? I would love to try it!
Ahhh Gear Lever is just the app image installer, it’s not a new package for Linux distros (like Flatpak, Snap or AppImage). If Supernotes is already install on your system you won’t need to use Gear Lever, it’s only for first time install
Gear Lever is an alternative way to install appimage files for the Linux desktop, not a separate package format. It is an alternative to appimagelauncher which up until this year had not been updated since 2020.
Gear Lever is available as a flatpak on Flathub. I was recommending that the Supernotes documentation be updated to include Gear Lever which is a fairly popular way to install and manage appimage files these days.
I use Gearlever and find it an excellent way to integrate Appimages into the desktop environment. I have been using Linux only since 1994, (Slackware 0.8, distributed on CD!!!)
