Global index or table of contents for S'notes

I would like something along the lines of a Collection that only contains notes linking to other notes, organized in an ongoing outline. Something like a table of contents in a book.

I use Supernotes for different types of notes: genealogy family records, journal writings, software app notes, general notes of other topics. These would each have their own Outline Index Card in a Collection called Global Index, for example.

Global Index of Notes

  • Family Genealogy Notes Index (green cards)
  • Journal Writing Notes Index (blue cards)
  • Software Apps Notes Index (red cards)
  • Misc Notes Index (purple cards)
  • Old Projects Index (gray cards) for keeping a record of old notes (archive).

The Outline Index Cards would also link to each other.
As new note cards are created, the Indexes would be updated (manually).

Other rules would be all software notes would be colored red, and be tagged ‘software’. Likewise for other sub-indexes.

Is this doable, have folks already designed a system like this, and are there instructions somewhere for setting it up? Are there reasons to not do this? Would “Global Index” be a useful name for an Outline Index Card system like this? Any comments or suggestions appreciated, thx.

I have a similar setup in Obsidian, where I have a “Collection” note with links to other notes related to that topic. This actually might work better in Supernotes because I prefer using Obsidian for long-form writing. Thanks for the idea, and I’ll be experimenting with it.

I don’t understand how this idea differs from the current Outline view. But perhaps I’ve missed a key part of your idea?

Why not just put all those cards you mention as “root” cards (i.e. without a parent), and Supernotes can already show you the complete child tree structure under each card. In other words, I already treat the Outline like an index or table of contents, for quickly navigating to certain parts of my tree structure.

Thank you, @JamesT. You may have answered my question. I will follow up on what you are saying here.
