I can't figure out how to create tasks

I’ve tried typing and then adding the item but it doesn’t turn it into a task. When I hit ‘/’ there’s no option for creating tasks, and the page on the website about creating tasks doesn’t tell me how to create them. (also it has a typo–“has an open tasks”)

I found the help button in the bottom right corner and was able to access the Cheat Sheet to figure this out.
