I use SuperNotes on my MacBook, work laptop (Windows), and phone (iOS). Syncing between desktops works 100%. Syncing with iOS, not so much; I constantly have to sign out and sign in again in the app to see notes I have created on desktops. Even signing out and in again doesn’t work all the time. Sometimes I get around 75% of my notes; other times, all notes. Notes created on iOS often (I would say half the time) won’t sync to desktop. These notes are then lost when I try to force a sync by signing out (and in again).
This leads to me not using the iOS app other than “read only,” severely limiting my note-taking workflow.
In a few days, I will be taking a 2-week holiday and will only bring my phone. So, to be sure that my daily notes are persisted, I will make them in Apple Notes and copy-paste them to SuperNotes (desktop) when I get back. Hardly ideal.
We’re sorry to hear you’ve been encountering sync issues on iOS, that’s not ideal at all! For critical bugs like these please always reach out to us immediately via the in-app messenger ( ? ) > Chat with Us. It sounds like you’ve been encountering this for a little while and by letting us know as soon as possible means we can fix them faster for you. Our developer expectations for Supernotes is that it should be reliable 100% of the time on every platform – notes should never be lost and we’ve built multiple safeguards to try to make sure that never happens.
Which versions of iOS and which iPhone are you using? Are you doing something specific in your workflow that triggers the sync failure more often? The more detail the better, and if you don’t want to share this publicly feel free to message us up via the in-app chat.
With the upcoming Supernotes 3.2, we’ve completely re-written how storage works on mobile to support all the new functionality, so this should hopefully fix this as well. We are expecting to release 3.2 this month.
I’m using the latest IOS (don’t know the version number) on a iPhone 12 Pro Max. There are no specifics to my workflow on the phone, other than opening the app, adding a note (or updating an existing note). These changes often don’t sync (to desktop). Also changes I made on desktop are often (50%) not visible in app. I have to sign out, sign in to see these changes in app. But when I do, all changes on phone are lost (of course).
Thanks for the quick reply @mjax. We’ve just planned additional testing for Supernotes 3.2 regarding iOS storage and syncing, to make sure this issue is resolved for you. Once the new 3.2 release is out, please let us know if this fixes everything for you.
Just came back from a 2-week holiday, using only the iOS version for my daily notes. In these 2 weeks, there were 3 instances when the app didn’t sync (I know because I have set up automation to create new notes on a daily basis) and it wouldn’t sync by pulling down on the note list (is this even the way to force a sync?). Killing the app and restarting it solved this issue.
I myself am finding my app loads to a blank screen so I have to force close the app and reload. I do wonder if offline made notes are then lost as a result of the force close?
Hi all, thanks for sharing this, and we’re really sorry to hear you’re experiencing these issues. We’ve been investigating this extensively since your reports and this will be addressed in the 3.2 release, which will release this week.
Problem still exists in 3.2. Yesterday, I opened the app on my phone and updated a note. It synced to the desktop. Today, I changed and added multiple notes on the desktop. I opened the app on my phone, but the updated and created notes are not showing, and the “Updates” indicator is not displayed. I added a test note on my phone, but it doesn’t get synced to the desktop. I force-closed the app and restarted it. All notes are showing except for the test note.
This behavior is exactly as it was pre 3.2. I know that when the “Updates” indicator is not showing, the app is in a “bad sync state,” so I know how to avoid it now. But it’s not ideal.
Update: Today I tried again under (seemingly) the same circumstances, but this time my test note did sync correctly. So I’m not 100% sure if the problem actually still exists or if I just experienced a hiccup.
I’ve personally experienced sync slowness on Android as well. It shows as being up to date, when it’s not. I had to wait many minutes and restart the app multiple times for it to sync.
Thanks for keeping us updated @mjax. Super helpful. I think you may have actually experienced a different bug, that we fixed in 3.2.1 – whereby sometimes new notes wouldn’t show due to an issue with filters.
We’ve entirely re-written the way cards are stored with 3.2 where offline notes are prioritised, always backed up and stored safely – even if the app crashes. If a card occasionally fails to sync, opening edit mode and then finishing it will force the changes to be pushed – although this should be a very rare occurrence, if at all. Let us know how you get on, and get in touch with us at any time via the in-app messenger, we’re here to help.
I’m still experiencing the same issues. Today I created 6 new notes on my desktop. Not showing up on mobile. Created a test note on mobile. Killing the app and still not showing. Killing again and the “Updates” indicator is shown. My test note is lost again.
I’ve lost all confidence in the sync of notes between devices. Both Apple Notes and Obsesian never had this problem.
Hi @mjax, did the test note show up on Desktop in the end? We’re still very puzzled why you’re encountering this so frequently, we’re trying hard to re-create the issues you’re having on our end but are having a hard time of recreating them. We’ll continue to keep this top of mind, and hopefully with our upcoming patches & updates things will improve for you.
